Troop 300 Announcements - January 13, 2019

Posted on Jan 13 2019 - 10:49pm

Please refer to the Troop 300 Calendar for additional information on the following upcoming events:

1.      January 15.  Troop Meeting – Order of the Arrow Elections.

All Scouts should be in Class A uniforms as they elect those qualified members of our Troop into the Order of the Arrow.  The Order of the Arrow began in 1915 to recognize Scouts who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives.

2.  January 22. Parent Information Meeting.

-      Come hear what is planned for the Troop and your Scout for 2019.

-      We will go over the Troop Calendar for 2019

-      We will review all the information resources available to parents to stay informed (Troop 300 website, Scoutbook, Facebook, Remind App)

-      We will review opportunities for you to contribute to your Scout’s experiences.  In order for all that the Scouts want to do to happen, we will need parents to assist.  You don’t have to do a lot, but we encourage each parent to take on at least one task over the year so we can enable many opportunities for your Scout.

-      Example 1.  Once a month participate in a Board of Review which will allow you to meet other Scouts and get feedback on what they like and want to do more of.  Great way to learn what it takes to go from one rank to another.

-      Example 2.   Collect permission slips and payments prior to a campout/event.

-      Example 3.   Volunteer now to assist on a big event like the Spring Campout or Siege of Mafeking.

3. February 12.   Troop 300 Open House for Interested New Scouts.

Our Troop 300 Scouts will spend the Troop meeting outside demonstrating their Scout skills to youth and parents who may be interested in joining us in 2019.   Spread the word to your friends and acquaintances to have them bring their youth to check us out.

4. February 19.  Troop 300 Winter Court of Honor.

Join us as we publicly recognize and reward our Scouts for their hard work toward achieving rank advancement and merit badges.

5. February 22-24.  Have your Scout join Troop 300 and many other Scouts from the Colonial Virginia Council at Endview Plantation in Newport News for the annual Lumberjack Campout.  Lots of fun for your Scout as he and the Troop compete against other local Troops in Lumberjack skills.

Eagle Scout - Fundraiser

Posted on Jan 5 2019 - 8:00pm

Life Scout Lucas Miller is requesting your support in raising funds for his Eagle Scout project.

He said "The plan for my project is to construct and install a bat box, or artificial bat roost, in the First Colony area to benefit the local ecosystem and community.

I hope to finish my fundraising in the next two weeks so that I can begin working on the physical project."

Thank you so much for your help and consideration, Luke Miller
